We’re Still Drinking the OTH Kool-Aid After 10 Years
Elise Wallace showed me her Time Hop Tuesday. It put her at Irvine Lake, August 27, 2009 (our only Wednesday Race ever) wearing asparkly skirt and a big ole grin. Since then she’s had 2 kiddos, and run/ridden thousands of miles. Elise is a serious fun-haver (also known as an athlete in her adult years doing it for love). Now her kids drink the Kool-Aid of OTH, with a full-throttle hankering for some race day fun. And they’re not alone…I’m drinking the OTH Kool-Aid Too.
114 races, 150 kids racers weekly (under 11), 35 different classes who received 155 trophies last night. Yep, the buzz is still ringing in my ears. The cheers of racers, families and friends so vivid I can still hear them.
I’m tired. It’s been a full and amazing week. But my heart and head are still buzzin’ with the energy, memories and thoughts to the future. It’s been 10 years since our first event at OTH, but a lot has happened. So much of a good thing and so many epic stories it’s hard to imagine it was real.

We had a great time Tuesday.
I wish there was a way to recap the feelings I have after 10 years of sweat, set up, tear down, hugs and high fives, bull horns, sponsor support, volunteer army labors of love, and huge podium celebrations. Words won’t do it, so I’ll recap by saying I’m full….and fully humbled that God has blessed me to be a part of the greatest community of people I’ve ever known at OTH.
So next Tuesday, if you’re missing your local riders here’s a Kool-Aid-ish suggestion. Get everyone together on a bike and pedal, anywhere, anytime, but get ‘er done, it’s time to stop making excuses. It’s time to lean in, discover and play hard. It’s time to live the dream, and to fall in love with life. Live the dream and never let that dream’s wheels stop rolling.
Thanks for allowing me (Matt), John, Suzanne and the OTH family to join your family back on August 27, 2009. Here’s to another 10 years of awesome.
