July 30 Photos-Called to Creation Captures Ned Overend in OC
Scott McClain, captured “The Captain” Ned Overend, perenial multi-discipline Specialized mountain bike racing icon out on the dirt at Irvine Lake, July 30. Ned Captured 3rd place, against a field of pros half his age. Brandon Gritters took 1st, Sid Taberlay 2nd, Ned 3rd.
Many of the classes have been shaking up, and Next week after week 9 there will be some with a full series load of points, ready to race into the last 3 races to drop their worst races.
Bike Religion came out in full force, to man the KOM competition, handing out $30 store credits for the fast and light on their feet, in each starting group. As the night went on there was no shortage of caffeine, as Bike Religion broke out their coffee samples from the Dana Point Store which houses Crank and Grind. C&G opens at 6am in the AM, so you can get your tubes, lube, or bike food and a coffee for some extra MoJo!
In addition to world famous Athletes, our own Replay Timing Chief Chris Williams (AKA CeeDubb) took to pedaling for the first time in 3 years on his pink flashed CycloCross Bike, dawning the pink Bikes 4 Boobs kit. (He likes pink, what can we say?)
Another fun sidenot for us: the Relampago team photos being shot out at Irvine Lake; Lou Mollineda has assembled a crew of youth racers, and is working hard to make sure that in a sport that isn’t cheap, each of these kids has a legitimate chance to race. Relampago is sponsored by TLG Paving; we get stoked when companies catch a vision for creating athletes and giving great life experience to the rising kiddos.
Scott’s photos will be available for viewing and purchase at Called to Creation’s website later this week, but for now here’s a preview gallery.
See you next week, August 5.
