June 29 Race and Photos
June 29 was the end of the 1st 6 races and proved to be the most active of all 6 so far. Again a field far deeper than 300 took to the line…not to mention the 18 kids who launched from the start line around their 1.5 mile course at 5:30pm.
The kids race has taken on a life of it’s own with parents and volunteers manning the race and running on support bikes behind the kids. You’ll find their results here.
In other categories, pro Jason Siegle (Bike Religion) was looking for his second pro 1st in two weeks, and had a solid 30 second lead the first two laps but was caught in lap 3 by Dana Weber and Brandon Gritters, who held almost a minute lead at the end of the race. This has been a fun category to watch all season.
Men’s Expert Johnny O’Mara posted another win in first place, bringing out pro Moto Cross racer Ivan Tedesco competing in the Men’s Sport 1 class. Ivan took 3rd behind 1st and second Josh Kompa and Paul Greeves. That pushed hard-charging 16 yr old Alex Melewski, Current Sport 1 Series leader down to a 5th finish. Again a wild category to be watching all season.
Women’s Sport class, lost Leslie Williams, to the Expert Category…she’d finished 5 minutes ahead of the field the week before, and conceded that she’d go chase the experts. Great finish with the Expert Women Leslie and keep charging for 3 weeks, chances are you’ll be digging for the 1st and 2nd places in the second set of 6. (Leslie has a 6 month old baby and is doing better than she expected).
Sorry it’s taken a while to get some pics and report up…the long weekend, and unexpected road trip have kept me from getting the details up.
We’re most excited that the series is keeping the positive family vibe and everyone is having a blast. Second set of 6 we’re looking to get some single track back (from under the water) that we used last season and can’t wait to get started again.
Pedal Hard and thanks to John Warren for sharing the below pictures, since Jason was out of town. See you at the Lake.
