Over the Hump Dates Summer 2021
The last time I posted was a pain-demic announcement of the non-event of Over the Hump’s 2020 season, on July 3, 2020. AND we’re back with Over the Hump Dates for Summer 2021.
Though there’s been tremendous frustration, pain and loss this past year in so many areas of many of our lives, it sure has allowed me to appreciate you, my Over the Hump Mountain Bike Family. I miss you.
I’m SO pumped to announce our 2021 season dates. As the trails have buzzed with more spinning freewheels and a record number of people picked up bikes in 2020, we are looking forward to the most lively race season ever known to men, women and kids.
Over the Hump 2021 8 Race Summer Schedule:
Tuesdays: July 20, 27, August 3, August 10, August 17, August 24, August 31 and Season Finale September 7
You may already be registered
If you purchased the season pass or opted to transfer your race to 2021, you are already paid for the season or for the races you purchased. Registration will not open immediately, but we will do a full release of information on when we do plan to open registration over the coming weeks.
Additionally, we are in the works planning to operate a winter series of 3 races, and season pass Share Holders will also be able to race those 3 races as a part of your 2020 season pass.
The Basic Format
Racing Over the Hump is for the fun of it…and a “little” friendly competition. With that in mind we will return to our format of self identified classes of racers ability and fitness, along with the algorithm that was developed in 2019 by our friend Ross RDB Solutions to help the racers who’d benefit from moving up or down to meet their competitive equals head to head.
Rules and courses will be designed with the land available and racer experience in mind. You can bet there will be some silliness at the start and venue after the race. As guidelines for interaction, vaccine and smart integration of people’s health and experience develop we’ll be making the venue a safe place to race and participate as spectators, exhibitors and staff.
There will be no “break” as we’ve had before. It’s 8 straight Tuesdays. Scoring will be on the best 6 of 8 races for series points.
Why 8? Mostly we’re confident we can effectively celebrate a successful season with 8 races. May is possibly too early to circle the wagons and starting in July (taking into consideration the Daylight hours that shrink in September) we have time to complete a full series of 8 races.
Our Promise to You
Over the Hump is your race. We will listen, plan and promote the best race experience known to humans, at least as far as we are capable of delivering. We promise a fun for all, all are welcome, full-tilt racing season ahead. More than any other year we want to help integrate new riders with our seasoned 2 wheeled tribe mates to embrace and share the passion that draws us together.
It seems far away, but remember how fast (at least sometimes) this year has gone? July 20th will be here before we know it. The pain of 2020 is already flowing off my back as I type. I cannot wait for us to be together. And it will be soon. We are excited to get the wheels rolling and hearts pounding.
So keep your eyes and ears out for more reveals along the way, and know you are the best way of spreading the news…so please feel empowered to tell a friend that the race you celebrate every summer is here to stay.
We love you guys and are smiling ear to ear thinking of the high fives and hugs to come. Now get out there and pedal, because though it seems a few months away, all those fun after work rides will build your friends and fitness as you prepare for the MTB Party of the Year.

Hi Matt,
Lynda Nelson, from John Patterson’s Tustin Mazda and Huntington Beach Mazda.
Long time no talk! Been thinking about OTH all covid long and am so happy to hear July 20 is THE DAY! That’s great news!
Shoot me an email when you can, lnelson@ocmazda.com. We’ve got our own in-house Marketing guy who claims he’s a mountain biker…let’s put him to the test!
He would also love to talk to you about ways you might let us be a part of the action this year!
Congrats to all at OTH and best wishes from your HB Mazda and Tustin Mazda friends and fans
