Mountain Bike Race Party
We describe Over the Hump as a Mountain Bike Race Party, maybe more accurately a Party that happens to be a bike race.
From inception we came to some common core values that we’d share in this community
- Over the Hump is a Community of riders, racers, fans and sponsors
- Over the Hump is for Everyone. All people, all level racers, and never before racers
- Fun is our #1 Value
Regardless of our history, or challenges in front of us, the Over the Hump Community is bigger, stronger and better because we’re not just a race….we’re a Community & most would agree a family. We’ve thrived through high waters in the lake in 2010, fires, 3 venue changes, limited course availability, course closures, sicknesses, and personal challenges. We’ve got this!
Watch where we came from
What’s next for this family?
We do plan to race starting May 19!
As much as we have to do with it, and provided the authorities and health officials agree it’s safe, we’ll race on May 19. Of course we are holding this date loosely as we have not (yet) determined how to tell the future. But since God’s in control, and we’re not, we’re confident that whatever cadence the summer schedule takes we will all be ready when it gets here.
So prep for the upcoming Mountain Bike Race Party…cause it’s coming.
What can we all do now?
Get on your bike or trainer. It’s good for your soul, good for your fitness, and good for Race Career (especially if you graduated classes last year). Training can take many forms, just keep your group to a party of one, immediate family, or the locally adopted numbers that are being allowed now. Of course you don’t have to make it boring. Online training mecca, STRAVA, is responsible for 92.3%* of the worldwide bicycle ribbing and kudos that go on worldwide. And if you feel like virtually riding with your friends you can get your virtual self launching forward on ZWIFT.
You can look to see how you can help those in your immediate community. Some need a phone call, email or video chat to boost spirits. Some need business, like our local bike shops who are turning screws on bikes to keep us all rolling and keep their businesses pushing forward. Some elderly can’t risk going to the market; be their grocery sherpa. Our kids need us more than ever; we can share encouragement, unconditional love, our repressed homeschool teacher persona, and outdoor activity director to keep us all sane.
We can focus on limits or focus on the limitless opportunities to live an amazing life.
What does the future look like?
Different! But that’s not always bad. We know that the world has changed and this virus has poked a hole in government, business, and health.
However, what we know for sure: We will overcome! Our community is a strong one, and mountain bikers in general have survival and endurance built into our DNA…those traits bleed into life. NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) heralds their biggest benefit to student athletes riding bikes are the life lessons they learn by participating. We believe that vision wholeheartedly, and if nothing else hold to a common belief within this community of mountain bikers.
Over the Hump is a place where people re-find their lost inner child, bond with their family, grow their community and experience the thrill of overcoming challenges and pain to push themself to accomplish a goal. For some it’s to finish, for some it’s to win, and for most it’s to get better along the way.
