August 21 was a lively lake night at Over the Hump, withTuesday August 21 finale and Awards Ceremony coming this next week, August 28.
Women are loving and racing OTH this year. With 2 ladies nights by Felt, age groups for the women, and a new Women’s Intermediate Class in 2018.
This week Leadville Champ 2x’s running, Larissa Connors, our local Felt Bicycles hero and winning hilarious personality lead out the Project Bike Love race skills on our own OTH Race Course.
Clydesdale and Mens’ 60+ Categories took the Mazda Fastest Lap prizes.
Sponsor activation is a big part of making the fun last all night long at OTH. We would take the credit, but then we’d not sleep at night. This week Cannondale brought the slip n slide out for some post race fun. It was almost chilly, after we jumped in to sample the Baby Shampoo slicked coaster.
Rock N’Road Cyclery brought their A Game with volunteers and race team fun as the featured shop on Tuesday. Complete with the signature RNR Towels, water bottles, and tons of cheery faces and big sweaty hugs. So good to have the support of shops all around Orange County…couldn’t do it without you Rock N’ Road!
Just one more week at OTH to get entered to win a Trek Bicycle by putting your name in at the Mazda booth. Winner will be announced at Revolution Bike Fest, November 9-11, 2018. All you need to do is drop your name in the IPad at Mazda’s booth this week. The Selected winner will have their pick of the litter of Trek two wheel awesome, up to $6000 retail, courtesy of Mazda.
We’ve seen more kid’s race action this year with over 100 kids weekly, and tons of fun as they slot into the start shoot. Every week there’s 10-15 new kid racers, and the returning “veterans” of our younger peloton. Kids 6-8 are racing for weekly experience, and awards. The older kids are scored on their 12 race series, and we’re going 5 deep on prizes, trophies and podium photos for these kids as they grow into racers who will push Mom and Dad to dig deep out on the local trial.
So as we head into the final night the Team competition and the 12 race series (Juniors through Elite) and the 6 race series (Beginner and Intermediate) there’s big prizes to give away and some fun celebration points of an awesome first season at the new Lake View Venue atop the lake, and we’re ready to say a sad goodbye to the 10th OTH Season.
The Results are in…going into the finale:
Points shifted again in the wake of race 11, with just one more to go, all the heat is on the Skull Technology Race Leaders to keep the orange pinned as the rest of the field chases them to the finish. Each leader going into the finale can pick up their leader’s Jersey at the merchandise booth.
When ready the weekly series standings are posted HERE
Consider joining us for the fun finale celebrating the end of the season. We’ll race as usual Tuesday August 28th, then turn our sights to the MAZDA Podium to welcome our 2018 winners to the steps. Awards ceremony goes from 7:30pm-9:00pm.
Next week’s course will be similar to this week, but we’ll be working in the Oakley B-Line (downhill this time) for the Juniors Through Elite 12 week series racers.
See ya here.
