What is Over the Hump Mountain Bike Race?

"I've decided: I will start asking questions, again...I will be curious"
The most powerful experiences for me are the ones I connect with. I'm curious where Over the Hump connected with you? Maybe you'll say what you felt was awesome, or how Over the Hump has changed, and "Just isn't what it used to be, because......" . No rules. Send it!
I may never write another blog, or E-Newsletter, or operate another bike race. AND Over the Hump has deeply touched my family.....Over the Hump is awesome....BECAUSE OF YOU.

I don't know how OTH has made you come alive (or pissed you off) ....so can I ask a favor?
Will you share with a person or more by Tuesday next week, October 29th at noon, "How I've experienced Over the Hump is....(you fill in the blank)"
4 possible ways to do that:
- Go on a ride with a friend and talk about your experience
- Text a friend your experience
- Send them a personal email about your experience
- Post a comment on this blog post
Thank you. I cannot wait to see who you tell, and meet them, personally.

Over The Hump is the gift that keeps on giving. And I’m not talking about the remnants of dust in my lungs being coughed up days after joyfully suffering amongst friends each week. Nope, that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about having OTH come into my life when I needed fitness, motivation, and fellowship, which just happened to be mixed with friendly competition. Embracing the summertime suffering allowed me to find limits within myself that I didn’t think were possible. I conquered the depths of max heart rate suffering, rode the highs of standing on the podium, and now find joy in seeing the smiles and happiness in others while serving. Seeing such a great community come together to promote healthy, competitive fun is fantastic. Over the Hump is a unique gift that probably isn’t appreciated enough and hopefully will be around for years to come. Thanks, Matt, John, and all the others who have helped make lifetime memories.
Great comment Brandon. You were one of the first people I met at the races and I remember how humble and kind you were. The entire crew, Matt, John, Adam, Heather, Chris, Evan and many others are like family. Something about suffering and talking about how fun it was is cleansing for the soul. I leave there every week and feel like I am walking on clouds for the next two days. Love you all. Thanks again for your great work. Alex
I am lucky to live in So Cal because it has so much to offer in terms of quality of life and recreational opportunities.
As a former dirt bike rider, I use to ride and race at Saddleback Park (a stone’s throw away from OTH). Sadly, Saddleback Park no longer exists, but my life was enriched by the experience of having Saddleback as a recreational resource close to where I lived. I have wonderful experiences and memories from that time.
Now, as a cyclist and mountain biker, OTH is a wonderful recreational resource that I have found later in life. OTH enriches my life with competition, fun, and great memories. I (and thousands of others) are so lucky to have OTH here in Orange County!
I also have had the experience of leading a bicycle club for many years and I know all the behind-the-scenes work it takes for things to run smoothly for others. Matt and his team have spent untold hours over the years producing OTH as a first-class operation for all of us to enjoy. We are so fortunate to have OTH and I, for one, want to express my thanks to Matt and his team for allowing OTH to exist and for giving back so much to cycling, MTB, and families. I hope OTH can continue on for many years to come! OTH is a So Cal blessing!
