Over the Hump Starts Fresh on May 7
Each Season Over the Hump Starts Fresh. We look at what works survey racers and get after the fun factor again 8 months later. Going into Season #11, our 10th anniversary we take the responsibility more seriously than ever. We love being a part of your family and couldn’t do it without your feedback.
Here’s the bullet points, so you know what to expect:
Courses to change weekly
- We’ve taken a hard look at the courses and putting together the Beginner/Intermediate courses and Sport/Elite courses. We’ve separated them as much as possible. Come to the New Rider Booth each week to see number of laps, direction and where your course will go.
New Scoring Model to level the playing field.
- Racers will benefit by finishing high in the class, competing more races, and the team competition
- See the New Race Scoring model HERE
- See the New Team Competition HERE
The Classes-
- Women 2 age classes in each class 34 & under AND 35 & over
- 65+ Men’s Race Class (top 3 will podium. Best 9 of 12 races score points
- Enhanced competition – racers who finished on the podium in 2018 need to review MOVE UP GUIDELINES. We also are using RDB S0lutions Digital move up formula weekly to measure the moves from class to class starting at the beginning. HERE
Simple Green Leader’s Jersey:
Leaders in each class will wear the SIMPLE GREEN LEADER’S JERSEY starting on Tuesday, May 14. Look for the green blur. (The leader’s Jersey is required to score your race if you are the leader).
Kids:
- We’ve got bikes from Giant, Specialized and Trek for kids to enjoy, and get the most out of their experience here.
- Kids get awards weekly awards
- Helmet stickers are back. Awards are given after 4, 8 and 12 races completed. Collect them all and get a customized 2019 award with your name on it (kids).
- We score the 9-11 year old race on best of 9 races out of 12 (kids 6-8 are getting accustomed to racing and we keep it fun by weekly awards, but not season podiums to lesson the pressure.
Contests: stick around after the race for Wahoo’s, Beer, games and time with friends.
Our after race contests are back! Look for shenanigans post race near the Docent Ambassador tent week to week.
We’ve been working on the trails, after all the rains:
Thanks to Big Lou, Brian, and our Trail Crew Volunteers & Team the trails are getting close. (Not done yet). But, we had a heap of 2′ wide chasms and drainage that needed to be loved on to get ready and have spent the last month getting ready for you to fly through and have fun.
Welcome to 2019. Over the Hump. This is your MTB family, we’re looking forward to the 2019 summer reunion.
See you Tuesday!

Thanks for another spectacular event! Only thing I would mention is that the new venue space seems a bit cramped – not a lot of places to put a bike – lots of them lying around in areas where one needs to walk to get around. The only exit/entrance into the cramped space was often blocked by folks standing around, right next to cars passing by. Any way to expand the venue space would be great!
Hi Matt, great feedback. The new venue is awesome and poses some challenges. We’re going to have extra bike stands this week, and as always week 1 is an experiment in flow and new set up. Your feedback is important and we’re working to remedy all the traffic flow, bike parking, and entrance flow…Appreciate the note and thanks for racing.
