OTH Training Rides at Our Local Bike Shops

Looking to up your game this year for Over the Hump?  Here are some awesome training rides going on right now at local bike shops, right in your back yard!

The Path: Locations in Tustin and Trabuco Canyon

The Path Bike Shop does hill repeat training rides every Tuesday. Some members of their race team attend, and everyone is welcome! They ride on on pavement, but road or mountain bikes are both welcome.

Meet at 6pm roll 6:15pm every Tuesday

Meet at santiago hills park

Training Time: 1 hour

Pure Ride Cycles: Located in Lake Forest

Thursday weekly road ride:

28-32 miles, 2100ft, 14-16mph average, with regroups.
8am roll time. Usually back around 10:30am. The Thursday group is generally a little less planned – they ride toward the beach if it’s hotter, towards the hills if cooler, or if the group wants a more challening ride.

Saturday weekly road ride:

RIding from Lake Forest Sport Park. Meet up by 8:15am, roll by 8:30am. 40 miles, 2500ft, 14-16mph average. +/-
Moderate pace with regroups.

Participants should be pretty comfortable with at least 30 mile distances, at a moderate pace. The ride will consist of regular road riding, so you should be at least fairly comfortable with cars/traffic.

2 bottles of water, nutrition and a spare tube are suggested.

Saturday weekly MTB ride, which changes location on trails every week:

Intermediate: Distance and times change week to week

You have been biking regularly for at least one year. You have reasonable bike handling skills, and are confident riding in a variety of terrains and conditions including: singletrack, double track, muddy, wet, dry, loose. You are competent at riding undulating trails with moderate climbs and descents, some of which may be slightly technical in nature, but may get off and walk some sections.

2nd Tue of every month, Free flat repair/basic maintenance clinic:

Go on into the store and they will provide instruction on how to fix a flat while out on your bike. It’s a good way to get comfortable with changing a flat, in a relaxed situation. Bringing your front wheel is encouraged.

Here is a link to their meetup.com event page as well.

Jax Cycling Center: Locations in Fullerton, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Niguel, San Clemente, Yorba Linda, Claremont, Long Beach, and Murrieta.

Jax has rides for all types of riders. Rides require: an appropriate bike in good working condition, water and a helmet are required. They also suggest a spare tube, nutrition, cash in case they stop and your biggest smile! Many rides are held subject to weather. It’s a good idea to confirm dates, times and any specific requirements by calling the shop leading the ride. See you out there — and have fun!

The group as a whole keeps a relaxed pace while some may want to test their skill on the descents we always group up after every trail up or down to make sure everyone is included. Members of the BikeReligion staff will be on hand as well to give advice for riding skills and bike setup helping you be the best you can on your mountain bike.
