OTH has moved… to the other side of the lake.
We’ve been bursting holding this in, but now it’s time. Come see our new digs on May 10.
Yes it’s true, we have moved our staging and parking area from the Irvine Lake “Official Gate” to the back side of Irvine Lake, called Oak Canyon. And it’s a larger grassy area, with parking closer to the staging area, more shade, a start and finish on dirt (seriously…dirt), beer, Wahoos, kids races, and all our amazing sponsors, including Mazda Preferred Parking trackside.
Though Change can be hard, we are jazzed about this move. NO MORE SANTIAGO CANYON BACKUPS, plus, closer parking, more shade, and enjoy the same life giving party that you’ve come to expect, love and celebrate with your Over the Hump Family.

Hi, I am a beginner MTB rider. I would love to participate in the Over The Hump Series. Can you please let me know how challenging the course is and if it is suitable for a beginner rider?
Thanks,
Kelly
Hi Kelly, you’re in luck. We designed OTH and the course around you. The course at OTH is pretty tame, and we often even shorten the course for the beginner loops. As a general rule, you’ll find 4 mile loops and approx 300 feet of climbing per lap. Nothing major, no jumps, any portions of the course that get smaller than fire road are well marked and smooth. It’s a fun course, but really because of the group of people riding on it…if it were highly technical, not only would racers get lost in the mix and over their head because of difficulty, but also traffic would be too compacted.
Look forward to seeing you out at the lake and be watching future blog posts for what to expect on your first race, setting up your bike, training, etc.
Kelly,
I started the series last year as a beginner and its absolutely a blast and everything is doable. Loops are generally 4 miles or so and you will do two laps. The atmosphere is fantastic and I highly recommend you coming out and giving it a try!
Do you think that the “back side climb”, which was closed last year due to the fire, will be open for the 2016 season?
