June 26 First Half of OTH Season Wrap up
Summer is in full swing…and OTH first half of the season was a testament to thriving Southern California Mountain Bike Racing in OC Parks territory. We have so many people, and sponsors to thank, and of course the most active participants of all you racers.
What began as a dream in 2009 is now full technicolor. True competition, family fun, mid-week gathering for friends, and of course the always energetic kids racer, which thanks to Linked Cycling has become a staple weekly event at the lake. Thanks to Surf City Cyclery, as our Featured Shop for the Night, we had a ton of help making the wheels turn at Irvine Lake.
SRAM gave away a RockShox XC fork at the beginning of the race to a Beginner 2 racer. The winner was # 692, Nolan Morse, a B2. He received a Rock Shox XC 32 TK with pop loc 26″.
Each week SRAM is giving away goods to registered racers at the race start, which has allowed unsuspecting winners to go home with lottery-ish prizes each week. Can’t wait to see what is in store for the second half of the season
Tuesday night, after a 6 week run of raising funds, David Browning President of Think ASG an OC based IT solutions firm (an OTH Sponsor), shared what his team, along with Two Wheels One Planet has set out to do with their raffle and donations in the 2012 season. “On behalf of thinkASG and Two Wheels, One Planet (tASG/TWOP) we wanted to say “thank you” for the great support of the OTH community thru the first half of 2012 season. As most are now aware, our challenge to our team was to Play, Promote and Pay it forward – i.e. have fun being fit, share a little about tASG/TWOP to the OTH participants and, most of all, recognize the blessing we all enjoy to be able to be part of OTH and share that gift forward to others in need.
“It is with great pride that I share that your ticket purchases, along with generous matching from a shared tASG and OTH partner, Kawasaki, have reached $2,250 to date! Fate played again when we learned that the gentleman that put up a $100 bill for tickets last night was the holder of the ticket Matt drew, congrats to Rich deMichele! Again, much gratitude to our fellow OTH family for all that you have contributed and, please, keep it coming.
“Just think, with as many as 500 riders per week, if each of us brought one food item for race, bought just one more raffle ticket per event, we would give South county families 3000 items for the bare shelves and contribute $15,000 toward eliminating cancer in kids!”
RokForm again dropped a custom v3 iPhone Case on racers finishing first in their class.
As we move forward in the series, the SPY Leader Jersey has been settling in on a few riders. It’s been a fun battle to watch, and there are some racers who will be dropping some of their flats, and bonks in the upcoming weeks in July and August, and be moving up. The top 9 race finishes count toward the series final results, so expect Race number 10 to really shake up the masses.
Congratulations to all the racers finishing the top of their class in the first half of the season. Here’s the guys who will be wearing the SPY Leader’s Jersey on July 24 when we come back from our 4 week break.

Enjoy your break, rest up, or pedal hard to move up in the rankings…but remember if it’s not FUN ….get off your bike. Kid’s toys should never steal your joy!
-Now it’s time for this OTH staff to slide a ride in. Enjoy the ride!
