Over the Hump Course
There’s been a lot of questions coming in from https://raceoc.com and STR’s thread on Over the Hump Race Series subjects like: Can we pre-ride? Will you be posting GPS tracks for viewing of the trail map? What’s the elevation gain, and distance of the course? – All good questions. Here’s a real, if not good answer. We have so many options on trails it’s hard to choose…but we will. The cool part…with this many trail options you can bet that next summer’s season of Over the Hump Mtb Race Series will have varied trails from race to race.
Your involvement is crucial, as this is a community event, bringing Mountain Bikers together to have fun with a local race opportunities. Here’s a quick description of the track and a couple photos. Course is approx just at 5 miles, with almost 600 vertical. From the START you launch down a fire road 1/2 mile to the first climb (broken asphault and dirt), then there’s a fire road descent into the lake, bear hard right, or it is swimming in the lake for you. Then I’ve put a few photos below of the single track that runs under some tree canopy and along the lake below. The single track will take you back to the fire road and you’ll link back up to the same fire road you started on, in the opposite direction back to the staging area, along the beach, and left over the bridge (behind me in the only photo of me, I had to get my mug published somewhere, thought here was a good space). When you reach the staging area you’re at about 3 miles, a little over half way. Smile for the cameras, you’ll see your husband and mom in 2 miles again as you fire into lap 2.
After you cross the dirt bridge, you’ll follow the fire road left over by the boat dock and climb a little on the fire road, linking up th more single track. There’s a mix of fun rolling fire road and some single track climbing along the hillside (tall grass in the photo with me), then you bear downhill, grabbing more single track, wrapping around the Cottonwood tuft of trees. (At this point I started riding yesterday, rather than taking photos with my BlackBerry, sorry, too fun). A sweeping left turn will take you to another 1/2 mile of single track, down a quick drop under an oak canopy, and open up the last 1/2 mile stretch of fun, fast, sprint fire road back by the cheering masses once again, and onto your second lap. -See you at the track.
